
it’s îrân (ایران). nastaliq is an orthographic abjad, and it can’t start with a vowel. even ıran / ih-RAHN is incorrect as that is turkish phonology. the alif functions as the mandatory glottal carrier; the hamza (ء) is dropped when writing in farsi because you don’t need that level of redundant diacritics 💀 the alif w/hamza beneath (kasra: إ) is the initial phonetic anchor for the î, which was also invoked in dari & ‘tajik’ long before the latter's transition to cyrillic…even 4 pahlavi script
