Hot take: Immigration DOES need reform and the process should not take nearly as long as it is. However, we should still not allow them to enter without a background check at the very least

I’ve said this for years. The answer isn’t some dumb wall or making ICE/CBP a force to rival a European army. We need to drastically reform the immigration courts. Expand them many fold, increase the capacity of cases we can resolve in a set period of time. Then, ensure our immigrations officers are treating these cases as humanely as possible, affording all persons on U.S. soil with the same constitutional rights as the rest of us. Which, if I’m not mistaken, include the right to a speedy trial

I get it. Illegal immigrants are still breaking the law, and it is a security risk to not know who is in our country. But forming a militant arm of agents who terrorize vaguely Latino people isn’t the answer, and building a wall won’t help either.

Yes you’re so right, but what should we do with all the illegals here already? Obviously I don’t think we should just straight up deport them, but maybe force them to go through the same process of become a citizen as everyone else

That’s for the immigration courts to decide. I wouldn’t mind if part of that could include a pathway to citizenship ran by that legal system, possibly in exchange as well as a fine (because illegally crossing the border is a crime and I think having some form of punishment, even just a fine, would be a compromise to the “law and order” faction) they must pay off in a reasonable amount of time based on their income.
