
For both of you then, Americans’ privacy is given up freely. Our surveillance state may not be the government directly tracking everything its citizens do, but the citizens give up their information by posting their lives or signing TOS without reading them. I’d say at the very least our’s and China’s are comparable, just publicly owned vs. privately
Right, they have CCTV connected directly to the government networks on hiking trails in national parks and monitoring every single message on WeChat for contraband like porn (strictly banned there). Our flock camera infestation and meta spying can’t compete at all with stuff like this
Like much of everything else in our government, it’s much less centralized and much more specialized. Chinese surveillance means cameras on every corner tracking what every citizen does all the time and robust internet censorship. Meanwhile, US surveillance is highly targeted and can find any person the government is looking for on a dime while caching vast amounts of information on citizens online.
