This Hasan drama is why personality cults should be discouraged on the left. The right thrives off these personalities like CK, DJT, Fuentes, etc… Hasan fans defending him after animal abuse is the same concept as Trump fans downplaying the Epstein files

Rather the opposite, personality cults breed corruption. Look at conservatives that fell for the DJT personality cult and are now okay with blatant government corruption “because it’s Trump in the end he will make everything okay”

Historically having no cult of personality gets corrupted by hostile external forces. And having one prevents that

Israel, Russia, Qatar…all hostile external forces that have their claws in the trump cult of personality and benefit greatly from it. Any outsider can influence the policy of a dictatorship by framing it as beneficial to the cult. Really strange hill to die on

Not dying on this hill, just saying that historically the left has only been successful with a cult of personality

you can have charismatic leaders without cult of personalities. Bernie Sanders for example still gets plenty of criticism. It’s only an issue when that charisma begins to influence people to ignore the bad things

Name a successful progressive with a cult of personality who isn’t also implicated in major corruption

It’s pretty universally agreed among democratic socialists too that cults of personality are bad and that we need to be criticizing our politicians when they go corrupt

Not a “progressive” socialist, extremely corrupt and totalitarian regime, objectively caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands through great leap and cultural revolution. Chinese success only comes through Deng who undid mao’s policy.

Actually Deng built off Mao. It was the gang of 4 who was responsible for the bad stuff. But either way, whether you like Mao doesn’t matter to what I’m saying. I don’t like Mao, BUT Mao’s cult of personality led to his success. And other leftists without one failed

If you mean establishing a totalitarian dictatorship with hundreds of thousands dead as a success then I don’t think we have the same definition of success. Deflecting the bad qualities of the premier solely onto surrounding advisors without admitting the responsibility and involvement of the cult leader is an effect of the corruption that a cult of personality brings.

It’s more complicated than “people died so it’s bad”. People die under capitalism does that mean capitalism is bad? Or would it have been worse if there wasn’t capitalism? Again, you can’t do your good policies or whatever if you lose power to external forces. Cult of personalities prevent this and leftists without this fail
