What’s the argument for these? Always seemed lame asf but never heard a reason to do it in the first place

cities were the start, groups of families yk getting together so they weren’t herding through complexes now? convenience. avoiding interacting with people they might not know, even if it’s just knocking on a door and saying thanks

Also a street safety thing. Our police department sponsors the one in our area because they say it’s much safer to have young children in a closed off parking lot than wandering sidewalks after dark even with their parents

Ah ok. Yeah I can see relocating to a parking lot to avoid milling around crowded apartment hallways but other than that it seems sorta silly to me

Do you know if there is much real risk associated with trick or treating tho? I haven’t seen the data myself but it seems like something that gets blown out of proportion

There was a study that’s published in JAMA pediatrics that looked at like 40 years of vehicle versus pedestrian accidents on Halloween and the weeks prior and after and found that overall the risk increases 40ish percent on Halloween night but specific age groups like children 4-8 saw a risk increase up to 10x

Ohh ok I thought they were worried about attacks and crime, not car crashes. The latter case makes complete sense to me
