Its hard to get an estimate with the CCP, but China has a similar rate of homelessness. The real question we should be asking is why China became so poor in the 20th century?

From isolating itself from other countries trying to industrialize and make everything inside their country… wait isn’t that what trumps trying to do?

The answer is the great leap forward, which was much more destructive than just economic isolation. It was so bad that it caused a dip in global life expectancy. It’s amazing how socialists can’t get their mind around someone being against both socialism and trump.

Exactly, and the Great Leap Forward was when Mao decided he didn’t want to rely on other countries, so he tried to industrialize China way too fast and closed its borders and cut ties with nations and that led to catastrophe. If you cannot see how Trump is doing the same thing you’re fucking blind

That was one element of the Great Leap Forward. Forced collectivization and other policies such as killing all the sparrows also were major contributors to the rapid rise in poverty

Correct, but if you do not see how Trump is following that path, 那你不知道历史。

the better question we should be asking is why is the richest nation in history - a country with incomprehensibly more money than china - doing just about as bad (actually worse) as a country that's only recently undergone industrialization and modernization?

the numbers you just put up just prove the point

By many estimates China is doing worse than the US when it comes to homelessness, but thats besides the point. Chronic homelessness in the US is largely driven by non economic factors such as substance abuse and mental health issues. Our market economy has allowed us to become so rich, that the average Chinese income would be considered poverty wages by our standards.

by many estimates the US is doing worse, but it's besides the point right? chronic homelessness is driven largely by a lack of access to resources; housing, food, physical and mental health (this includes services for substance abuse treatment) go tell the average american struggling to make rent and eat nutritious food, or possibly raise a family that they're doing better than the average chinese person and they'll rightfully tell you to stfu. nobody cares. ppl are suffering and struggling

our nation has the wealth, manpower, brainpower and tech to feed, clothe and house everybody with plenty to spare. the issue is distribution. our national wealth means nothing to the average american

in fact a high GDP has been shown to correlate to a higher rate of human misery. being a richer nation does *not* mean the benefits of that wealth are seen and felt equally or at all by all people

I have not mentioned GDP, only median income. The typical American has access to more resources than almost anyone in human history. Our poor consume more resources than the average citizen of many wealthy nations. We are doing a better job of feeding people than almost any society ever.

Because the average Chinese income is more than fine in China, but when converted to usd it’s considered “poor”

discussing national wealth necessarily introduced concepts like GDP your comparison to US consumption only proves the point further. just because we consume more doesn't mean it's as efficient. our consumption is highly wasteful and inefficient. we consume more than most of our non-american socioeconomic counterparts chinese people are only poor by american cost of living, not their own

i have no love for china btw. it's an authoritarian state with plenty of problems. i just recognize that you don't understand what these numbers reflect or their complex interactions. i also recognize that china is the boogeyman everybody wants to use to discredit socialism while barely understanding basic cost of living comparisons
