That the reason your care costs so much isn’t because the doctors are making that much money off treating you, it’s because healthcare admins and insurance companies in an arms race to see who can provide shitty enough care that it costs less while not outright killing the patient. And also doctors, nurses, techs, etc are humans too and we went into this field to help people, not be slaves to them
Because it costs them less to cover it. Insurance, at the end of the day, is a bunch of people pooling money together in case something happens. If nothing happens, there’s no money given back to the customer. If something DOES happen, in order to keep profits high they find the cheapest option that works well enough, or makes you jump through hoops to get proper care so it’s “justified”
Acute care is what makes the hospitals money, and if people were receiving proper care they’d stop getting insurance because they wouldn’t need it. Btw even if you cut doctors out entirely your hospital bill would only go down about 5-10% so it’s really not the doctor pocketing extra money and charging you for no reason
Because as someone who works in healthcare and is also applying to medical school, these margins don’t make sense to me with how profitable health insurance companies are and the reality of what I see in terms of people’s coverage. A lot of patients get denied very necessary procedures
