If you take an embryo and put it in the freezer for 30 years and then implant a woman with it…how old is the baby after 15 years? Ur not gonna say they’re 45. That’s wrong and life support is kinda the wrong word. Life support implies the same kind that brain dead patients are on, where a machine does all the work keeping their organs going. Premature babies are put in an incubator similar to eggs. They need higher temperatures because their body hasn’t developed enough to self regulate it and they can’t fight off infections. They can still do all the other things that babies can do (which admittedly isn’t much, they’re pretty fucking useless)

Premature birth used to be a literal death sentence with the mortality being something like 90% until a literal fucking carney on Coney Island put them in incubators as a freak show attraction 😭

Like #8 said they aren’t on life support. They’re put in incubators. Besides not having a fully developed immune system and being able to regulate their body temperature, pre-mature babies can and do survive outside of the womb…be this “debate” has been going on for 2 fucking days and you have yet to give an actual argument or any facts…

Oh also important context, premature babies’ organs aren’t *fully* developed so you could argue their similarity to a fetus, but it’d be much more similar to an on time baby which their skulls aren’t developed and need to fuse together. a clump of cells with no definitive form and even lacking many vital organs is not a human being in the same way a premature or on-time baby is

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous 5w

You’re drawing the wrong comparison. An amputee and a premature baby are humans. However, an early stage fetus would be more similar to somebody who is braindead and on life support, in which they are functionally dead and have no brain activity. These people have their organs continuing to function with technology, but they are fully declared deceased.

Neither is sentient nor sapient, if that’s the case you shouldn’t be able to kill any animal because one day in millions of years they may grow to be sapient through the natural course of evolution. Chimps are officially in a stone age, and crows have demonstrated tool use and passing of collective knowledge, so they should be held to the same standard of life as a human being too i guess.

U can compare a fetus to a brain dead person tho: if you remove a braindead person from life support they die. If you remove a fetus from the womb and disconnect the umbilical cord it also dies

upvote 5 downvote

If you remove a baby from the womb it can survive on its own because the body is developed enough to where it doesn’t need to be connected via umbilical cord. A fetus however, doesn’t have the basic functions…like idk…fucking lungs and a heart in order to survive without the aid of an umbilical cord 😭 like this is basic biology….and yk what we mean when we say “survive on its own”

A fetus cannot digest food on its own because it has no stomach lmfao😭
