“This is how democracy dies in our face. It’s not always with violence in the street. It is those secret meetings you have in the back of your rooms” -State Senator London Lamar (D-Memphis)

so making districts based on race is bad, but when districts that are based on race are broken up it’s bad. make it make sense

The point of a protest is to disrupt. No one owes politeness to racists and authoritarians.

They are representatives. You need to express disagreements in civil and constructive ways. Protesting is not their role.

Their role is to speak for their people. Their people are being oppressed. It is their duty to speak out.

A state rep is not supposed to stay silent while their constituency is having their rights violated. Politeness and civility are not owed to those who don’t deserve it.

Oppressed? Racists, authoritarians? Those are all opinions. There are rules so that the legislature can do its job. There are other people there too whose time is valuable. You can't just throw a tantrum, and shut things down

The time of people trying to remove the rights of black voters is not valuable actually. It’s a moral imperative to disrupt their attempts at oppression.

Who says they don't deserve it? You have created this good vs evil narrative but this is the real world and people need to live and work with each other and be able to have discussions and arguments and votes in a civilized way

You know what I think is rude? Trying to racially gerrymander black people out of having any voice in state government. I think when someone tries that, they lose any right to being treated polite. I don’t give a flying fuck if the feefees of the racists are hurt.

The fact that you have the nerve to talk about “civilized” while defending sheer white supremacy and the regression of our nation is fucking beyond atrocious.
