I come from a rural area and go to a well respected AG school. I had a conversation with a farmer who essentially said Trump pushing to buy Argentinian beef and undercutting US farmers is socialism. Buddy, that’s as capitalist as it gets.

I think when he proposed buying it as though the government would do it on the taxpayer’s dime, that’s just corruption regardless of the economic system

Socialism ≠ state interference in the market. Socialism is when the community/ government owns the means of production. Undercutting US farmers because another country offers a better price is LITERALLY as capitalist as it gets. If the people owned the means of production they wouldn’t be undercutting themselves…

I said it the other day. He’s literally promoting trade and the idea that prices are lower with free trade. You know, the exact reason we have tariffs in the first place rn…

It doesn’t have to be socialist to be anti-capitalist. What definition of capitalism are you using?

It’s not just because another country is offering a better price though. Brazil is a huge exporter of beef but we’ve stuck them with a 50% tariff. He could pause that if this was purely about solving the beef price issue
