I’m anti Zionist but I feel like hating an Israeli just because they’re Israeli is kinda racist and antisemitic. Even if they support their country. That’s like hating an Iranian because they support Islam

i think part of the problem is “support their country” is really vague. like i support america (want a good future for its people) but not Trump. most Iranians support Iran but not the Islamic Republic. a lot of Palestinians support Palestine but not Hamas or the PA. and a lot of Israelis support Israel but not Netanyahu’s government

Also the way people use antisemitic tropes when talking about Israel. There’s so much to criticize, why do we need to act like they control the weather or if our sports teams win?

supporting a country isn’t the same as just living there

I do think your first sentence is correct. However I think there’s more nuance in the last two than you are indicating. There’s a difference between supporting a country, a government, and a religion.

there’s some exceptions esp here in the US but in the world everybody hates their government but generally very few people are willing to say they don’t support their country. a lot of people get really offended at the suggestion that they shouldn’t

Because on top of the antisemitism, it distracts from the real issues too

I mean Iran has killed more of their people in the span of 2 weeks than Israel has killed in 3 years per capita. I disagree I might even say Iran is worse

I think most people from a country usually support their country as a concept. But in many cases people have a responsibility to criticize their government. Sure, you expect someone from that country to be more likely to support that government than someone from outside it, but if that government is doing something bad you should condemn it. Americans don’t get a free pass for supporting Trump just because they’re American.

Like the Iranian government is different from Islam. Many Muslims do not support that government and treating it as if the government and Islam are synonymous plays into the hands of that government. The same goes for Israel and the entire faith of Judaism.

And I think there’s a further distinction, because the primary victims of the Iranian government are fellow Iranians, while the primary victims of the Israeli government are Palestinians. An Iranian believing “well this is worth it for the wellbeing of Iranians as a whole” is different than an Israeli person supporting harm towards a separate nation of people.

Fair but when they legit go by the Islamic Republic of Iran then it’s a bit harder to make that distinction

I’m pretty critical of religion in general lol so I don’t think the Iranian government is unrelated. Like it is a direct result of theocracy and conservative religion. I’m just saying there’s more nuance there and that being from a place doesn’t really absolve someone from the responsibility of taking a moral stance. It can help explain why they aren’t taking that stance, but it doesn’t excuse it if that makes sense.

I think #1 meant ur comparison. It’s Israeli to israel like Iranian to Iran. Or Israeli to Judaism as Iranian to Islam.

Sorry bad example. I was meaning it as the current genocide happening in Iran with the Islamic republic against their own people
