It makes me sad. My feelings are pretty nuanced on theft, for example I don’t mind a mother stealing diapers or formula from Walmart so her baby can be clean and fed. I do mind theft from small businesses, and I mind theft of historical items like in this case. I can almost guarantee there were rich underground buyers set ahead of time, and that money is not going to a morally right cause. And all that history is just gone now.
I haven’t had the chance to look into it in depth, but my best guess would be that it was an inside job in some way. I feel like it’s not possible without at least one person helping on the inside, whether that be a curator, security guard, or whoever. Although I obviously don’t approve of it, it would be extremely impressive if they pulled it off without an inside person
You’re most likely right. Idk how else alarms wouldn’t have been raised as quickly. Apparently the whole thing took 8 minutes. They brought a truck with a ladder up to a window, cut through the window dressed as construction workers, went in, and used chainsaws to break open the displays. The room they were in was conveniently free of all visitors at the time as well. Then they were seen by security, ran and got away on motorcycles
