Casual reminder billionaires are parasites and it is impossible for any man to amass as much wealth billionaires have without the mass exploitation of people and the environment causing catastrophic damage. Tax billionaires until they no longer exist.

While there is an economic and moral incentive to supporting high wealth business owners especially when a majority have their wealth locked up into assets. They absolutely deserve to be taxed higher to support the rest of the country. Yet, at the same time. If I had money what would make me want to make more money if I had to give more away, especially if I could just move to another country. Also, some billionaires give a whole lot back through charitable organizations tax write off or not.

We need to find a middle ground to support the financial and economic stimulus brought on by billionaires while also prioritizing the needs of the country and supporting our lower class especially in taxes.

I don’t believe there is a moral incentive to economically support the existing rich at all, especially at a time with such wealth inequality where our rich are having private space races and their neighbors are starving. People like you and me will never be as rich as these billionaires. It would be impossible, literally. I have no obligation to the men and women pillaging the earth and harming my fellow man.

Any “progressive” tax bills proposed in the last 30 years wouldn’t even come close to making these people struggle. The 1% have more money than they could ever possibly know what to do with and they still refuse to disperse it among the people who helped them obtain their wealth. Charitable donations are great but they’re usually just for tax benefits or optics and they’re acceptable to the political whims of the giver. People like bezos and musk need to have a chunk of their wealth confiscated

And redistributed. That’s the only way any real good can come out of their extreme hoarding of resources

I’m talking about the upper class in general not just the 1%. The issue with the 1% is they have the money to influence political leaders, fund private armies, and control legislation through the use of super pac’s and advertising.

Well the moral impact comes from the idea that they earned what they have. If you found a case of gold bars in your backyard and the police came and took it from you, you’d be pissed. At the same time, these people are responsible for creating jobs and bettering the GDP. But are willing to leave the us market if they are forced and have in the past. It puts us in a sticky situation especially when they have the means to control legislation as well.

To say they earned what they have is a stretch. They were born rich, had lots of luck, and were willing to fuck over enough people that they got to where they are today.

I mean look at the Walton kids, who are some of the richest people in the world. Their family made a fortune by systematically decimating small town stores all across America. Through this “innovation” we’ve had literally countless family owned businesses close while those people are forced to work for dirt poor wages in the super centers that displaced them. And we want to reward this behavior?

A better model in my opinion would be something where above a certain level of wealth people like this have a certain chunk of money separated from them. That money either has to go back to the employees (all the way down, not just shareholders) or it has to go to funding notoriously underfunded public funds like the park’s service, doe, snap…etc

I’m talking about bezos, Elon, Buffet, Zuckerberg types. Sure they had help, you need excess knowledge and assistance to succeed in anything.

Honestly the solution is socialism but no one wants to talk about that. Those are cons of capitalism.

Sure, I mean you can’t blame them just like you can’t blame a larger person for beating the piss out of an old lady and stealing her money. Survival of the fittest and whatnot. My point is that we have rules and values because we want to be better than that as a civilization. That’s why we have protected personal freedoms. Part of that should enforce the idea that a lucky few can’t abuse the majority simply because they are willing to act like monsters

Absolutely, but the harsh reality of that situation is it takes a monster to defeat a monster. Then even when that’s not the case the absence of said “monster” will be resurrected in a new form by another opportunistic person/power. That’s why I have like a fight fire with fire mentality about it. Don’t lay down but level the playing field.

100% agree. The rich used to build entire libraries etc now it’s pulling teeth to fund one shelf section. IMO the ideal would be a full wealth redistribution system eliminating the billionaire class entirely and permanently though I know that would be impossible. The next best would be a return to the 90% tax on the 1% like we had during the new deal era (I believe).

Up the tax to leave then, work to create a global wealth tax which has been proposed in the past. Also MA recently passed an additional tax on income over 1%- it was said it would drive away rich folk but in fact the number of millionaires has grown in the state. Why? Bc quality of life for everyone is better and thus there is high demand for jobs and a big market. If all else fails just seize their wealth IG
