finally the OHCHR and ICC does not constitute the actions in China as a genocide. genocide isn’t a word you can throw around as soon as you recognize a human rights abuse. if that were true, the entirety of the western world would have plausible evidence to be tried for genocide within their own countries.
It might not be genocide yet but there is a path toward it. For what other reason would you need an algorithm that identifies whether people are a certain ethnicity? And the allegations of forced labor seem pretty plausible, especially considering new reporting of forced labor even outside of Xinjiang https://www.npr.org/2024/07/18/nx-s1-5035540/china-forced-prison-labor-us-company-allegations
China has also detained auditors trying to assess labor conditions and conduct due diligence on behalf of US companies https://www.npr.org/2025/03/25/g-s1-55655/china-releases-staff-of-an-american-due-diligence-firm-in-move-to-woo-investors https://www.wsj.com/world/china/china-closes-u-s-auditor-as-tensions-mount-over-forced-labor-allegations-11629390253
uh ok, again, none of this has proven that they are actively committing a genocide. human rights abuses, sure, which shouldn’t be dismissed, but not genocide. i can cite these exact kinds of abuses that america has committed to specific minority groups and you wouldn’t constitute it as genocide. abu ghraib, migrant-worker visa abuses, contracting supply chains and prison systems.
