I have a question for all the people opposed to gender-affirming care for minors: can you propose a viable alternative? Can you point to a single treatment that is even comparably safe and effective for treating long-term gender dysphoria, or even better?Oh 100%, I just think that (if you can somehow convince them to think critically for a few minutes) this question really defeats that idea. Because IF it were true then acting accordingly would work, but it doesn’t. I wasn’t always a trans ally despite having gender dysphoria myself. This was the question that ultimately flipped me.
A. Puberty causes permanent changes (voice deepening, facial hair, breast growth) that can lead to greater distress plus more complicated surgeries / procedures later in life B. Studies show children that start hormone therapy earlier have lower rates of suicide, depression, and severe distress than those that wait
C. Supporting adolescents as they individualize and find their identity is critical to building self-sustaining and healthy adults. D. Major medical associations generally support gender-affirming care for transgender youth and oppose blanket bans preferring case-by-case judgment by parents and doctors
