bootlickers like OP are annoying as fuck. we get it, you enlisted and served, it doesn’t change a damned thing about the other post or about how many of us agree with it. fuck the US military and fuck our imperialist exploitation of other nations. the government preys on those in poverty for military recruitment for this exact reason, to pit the working class against each other (while weaponizing the need for survival) none of that justifies what we do across the world and the damage we cause
governments fault for preying on literal high school students and people in poverty, yes; but ultimately those individuals choices by remaining within the army. we can worry about our troops as they’re being abused and exploited by our government as essentially expendable bodies, but that does not mean we dismiss the harm they cause individually during their time; especially given how common it is for American soldiers to commit heinous crimes to the domestic population of the regions we’re in.
if you approached conversations with genuine curiosity and sincerity, instead of disingenuousness, you’d be very surprised how different they go. I’ve noticed that most conversations around our military or troops ultimately boil back down to our military’s wider impact on the globe; like personally I worry about the mental state of our troops because most of the people conditioned into enlisting have no comprehension of what they’re actually signing up for yk?
like a bunch of those high schoolers are sold a lie of “yeah enlist today, you won’t have to see combat, and you’ll have a Camaro in a year or two”; meanwhile when they get to their first deployment their souls are fucking shattered from being order to shoot someone for the first time, or from holding their dead fellow soldier that they went to basic with; and meanwhile this is a 19 year old kid who just got out of high school.
like the military is so much more fucked yo than people admit or acknowledge. Then there’s the topic of sexual assault within the military itself (as in solider on solider sa or rape), which the military even has a history of downplaying and hiding. when these types of critiques of the military come up, you gotta remember that there’s a lot that deserve criticism, and sometimes we need to have these discussions in order to achieve the change we desire yk?
