The amount of people online making jokes like “He was probably asking for it” is actually gross. Why are so many women attacking and mocking male victims, instead of criticizing abusers, or advocating for anti-rape culture. It makes me mad as a survivor

Not that I agree with it, but they’re obviously making fun of the talking points that men consistently pull out in response to sexual assault against women, such as idk the most common one: “she was asking for it.” I even have a friend who was told that exact line by the fucking POLICE who she was reporting an assault to.

And what do you think I was told by the University Police as a male victim? I was told the exact same stuff. People asked me if I was sure she knew I wasn’t interested, and if I “enjoyed it anyways”. The issue I have, is they’re satirizing it at the expense of male victims. The other male victims I know are super aware of SA prevention. We’ve been through it too, and want to ensure it happens to NO ONE. So why target that specific demographic with these jokes?

If their goal is to inspire change, and create an environment that is supportive of victims - why would they attack victims to do so. They may think it’s satire, but to me, and many other male survivors, it’s just the exact things we’ve heard from both men AND women ever since we opened up about our experience getting assaulted. It’s largely why I keep quiet about it. I could barely even tell my mom for years due to the negative experiences I had when I told people - and she’s my best friend.
