Capitalism where 10 people have more wealth than 50% of the country, we continue to own less stuff because of subscriptions taking more money from us. For our generation, we need experience to get a job but a job to get experience, but we can’t get a job because we don’t have enough experience that we can only get from having a job that we cannot get.
I don’t believe in full fledged Socialism or Communism, I think neither of those options work. I think the right option for the United States is to be a Social Democracy, taking facets of Socialism that ensure people can afford to live (affordable necessities like healthcare, food, housing) while still offering a free market just like Capitalism. It’s not extreme, and many of the nations who live under this system have stronger economies and have a higher quality of life than we do.
Enforce laws that prevent price gouging by corporations while also raising the minimum wage to a livable level. Ban corporations from buying out single family homes, which would decrease the price of housing everywhere. Increasing taxes on the richest Americans and lowering taxes on the lower and middle class. There also needs to be better solutions to mitigate costs of subscriptions that will enable people to actually own more things, because too many goods are now behind subscription paywalls
Also, Citizens United vs. FEC should be revisited, it’s allowed corporations to get away with more greed, and has normalized politicians being bought off by dark money. On top of that, we have too many monopolies, and we need to ensure that each market has enough competition that prices stay low. Whether by providing incentives for competition or limiting the percentage of a market that one company can control, monopolies make life harder for the lower and middle classes.
