While I 100% agree with the risks and damages from climate change, referring to humanity as a virus is giving into racist Malthusian eco-fascist sentiment

The human race isn’t the problem. It’s unfettered and unregulated late stage capitalism

And this will all happen in our life if we don’t lock in

as a 28 yr old who grew up hearing this same thing, I feel like our blasé attitude about it over the last 30 years has ruined nearly all of our chances. We succeeded in repairing the ozone layer, protecting our lakes from eutrophication, and reducing acid rain… but they won’t let go of the fossil fuel industry.

I meant it more so as a metaphor to get the point across about how serious it is

Yes I totally understand that, but whether intended or not, that’s still the sentiment, and it’s a slippery slope. We’ve been here before when “The Population Bomb” came out in the 60’s and all the white Americans lost their shit and believed all the racist stuff in it. Referring to climate change in this way is just another side of the same coin. I’m not hating on you or anything, I know where you’re coming from, but just want to point out what’s implied between the lines

Let me clarify then since this seems like such an intense topic for you, i (the op) in sound body and mind, in no way intended or expected for my metaphor on how humans are a virus on the earth like a virus is in the human body, making the connection that both heat up to kill said virus, to be connected to and i quote an “eco-fascist sentiment”

i think it’s more of a referral to ecological concepts like carrying capacity. it’s not sustainable.
