Leftist need to start reclaiming patriotism. Like I get it burning the flag and hating America is edgy and cool, to me, nothing is more infuriating than seeing some idiot spew the most hateful opinion about their countrymen while draped in the flag.

I don’t agree with the America haters, but their anger is founded in something real and not unjustified, it’s just misdirected. Their anger should be at the people causing it, and their goal should be to better the place they call home and help point it in a better direction. I kinda used to be on the “ashamed to be American” train but thinking about it, I’m ashamed of the people in charge. People should direct their anger towards something constructive for this country

Especially when leftist policies are to better the lives of all Americans, while right wingers actively want to destroy the things that keep Americans alive and able to afford to live well.

You’re shooting yourself in the foot by not being patriotic. The true unpatriotic person doesn’t care what happens to their country

i’m a religious leftist, i see how patriotism can turn into idolatry, especially if i’m “pledging alliegance” to an inanimate object like a flag. when you treat the flag as sacred or unquestionable, it can easily cross into idolatrous territory. i’m aware that some perceive it as a symbol of shared values or a civic statement of unity, but acting as though we’re being immoral for not wanting to worship a flag is at the very least, false judgement, and at the most, blasphemy.

Your anger being founded in something real doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be held to standards

Their anger isn’t unfounded, but what is gonna convince the average voter? The people burning the flag and constantly talking about how evil the country is, or the guys that say they love our country. We are not the popular opinion, I’m not saying move to the right, I’m saying the messaging has to be inviting

Liberals do use us to sway median voters. They will point to groups like antifa and disown them and call them radicals because it makes them look better to the “undecided voter”

We don’t have to be nationalistic. But we should embrace and lead with the idea that we care for our countrymen. Not necessarily “the flag” or the president, but our fellow man. Disrespecting the piece of cloth that most Americans see as sacred doesn’t help us.

The flag means a lot of different things to different people. One of its meanings is the nation (not government)
