So I went to a private Catholic school for 11 years, and there’s a lot of reasons people oppose private education. One is the lack of regulation. Private schools have few educational standards, and are often used to avoid teaching kids about stuff like evolution. This is an aspect of religious private schools frequently being used as a method of indoctrination.
This religious aspect is also what allows private schools, under current Supreme Court precedent, to heavily discriminate against students, families, and teachers based on their own religious rules. Private schools are frequently used to isolate wealthy kids from their peers, and are particularly used as a method of effective educational segregation.
Secular schools are a small minority of private schools, just under a quarter. Even private secular schools are often a tool for the wealthy to isolate their kids. Kids who are high performing should have access to accelerated learning, but there are methods to do that publicly. I would know, I attended dual enrollment classes at a nearby community college through the Virginia Governors School program.
Well right now the biggest priority is actually preventing private schools from taking away all the money from public education. Because currently the conservative-driven “school choice movement” is trying to funnel public school money into religious private schools through voucher programs. Right now the priority is damage control because it’s getting worse.
