I can be upset about this and still think he’s the better option.

I think it’s indicative of a broader pattern, where the dems are willing to throw marginalized people that are ostensibly their voting base under the bus to win

Bro realized he was running in Texas instead of a suburb of Austin. I get it, unfortunately. Even though I like him, he’s in no way a leftist candidate, …but he’s not a fraudster pedophile apologist

I’m sure with that statement he just won over a bunch of people who are supporting Ken Paxton. This was absolutely the one thing holding them back from supporting him entirely

I personally think it should be up to the governing bodies for these leagues, not some fucking politician from Texas.

I do not expect perfection from politicians.

Crazy how people would be furious abt this over almost any other marginalized group (women, poc, etc) but when it comes to trans people liberals are suddenly all too eager to justify dropping it like a hot plate

They’ve been abandoning women too, there was a big thing about running anti-choice democrats in red states

Yeah if the party can successfully drop trans people they’re going to try it with reproductive rights next. They’re already soft launching it

this statement does not drop trans people. talarico is a more staunch pro trans advocate than most democrats. He knows trans kids dont pose a safety risk, so he says he would not support it if it posed that risk. i dont see how a person could listen to his other speeches just this year on trans rights and think that this statement is abandoning trans people.

If he knows trans kids don’t pose a safety risk then why even leave the door for debating that fact open? By discussing how “if” there is a safety risk then that’s leaving the door open. It’s an active concession that this objective fact should’ve open to debate This is a concession to the conservative line that trans people are dominating sports. Sure, I don’t think Talarico is a frothing at the mouth transphobe, but I do think this is a major concession that is dangerous to trans kids
