You couldn’t personally compete in any of the events either, so I don’t think you have to worry about that

Exactly. Because what most people associate with “representing your country in the Olympics” is to show the athleticism and diversity of sports of your country. I’m sure Alissa didn’t compete to represent her country’s government or politics.

Making a statement by not competing would be very nice, but it really only works for people who are already known. One recent example would be Chappell Roan not singing at the White House, where she explicitly said she will not perform there bc of the administration’s support of the Palestinian genocide. It was very strong bc Chappell was sought after and performing at the White House is obvi a big deal, which made the whole situation more impactful because of how popular she was at time.

I’m sorry what specifically are you saying is not a thing?? Bc I never mentioned anything that wasn’t real. And no it’s really not weird to not go to an event you’re invited to because you oppose the hosts so much or to make a point.
