
its really interesting to see that like the 50s to 80s really is the reason why things are the way they are now. fear of the ussr caused so many foreign interventions that made the us get involved in so many messes, then greed and literal conspiracies fucked up domestic economics. the interventions led to 9/11, and 9/11 to insane politics and trumpisn
not even, i wouldnt say fear of the ussr was greed so much as it was just instilled fear of russia and communism during those days. there were definitely people (at least assisting in) manufacturing that fear, most probably for greed, but a lot of americans just feared it (as i understand it)
I mean in all fairness even if that’s the case, that fear was wholly misplaced (which just so happens to be one of the intended goals of the US’s comprehensive propaganda during that time) like our nation was inherently authoritarian during that time as well, and I’d argue even more so, but our nation is woefully skilled in redirecting guilt and responsibility where needed. tldr: it was mostly a manufactured fear of communism imo
