Fine I’ll rephrase. When is enough fucking enough I’m sick of billionaires running the governments of this country and clearly everyone else is too. Fuck you Kevin O’ Leary. Rot in hell.

He’s building his own in Utah. Massive public outrage over the past week but the community council still voted on it. It will consume 9 GW of energy. Utah only uses 4 a year so.

HUHHHHHHHHHH???? Meta’s one in Louisiana is going to use 5 GW 😭 9 is absurd, where are they going to get that from

“It will generate its own power on site, so Utahns power bill will not increase” -Kevin, or a paraphrase close enough. I fucking hate him.

Ohhh I see. I mean at least he’s not going to rely on the public grid. Looks like he’s going to use natural gas. But that’s humongousssss 😭

But also it will still affect power bills bc suddenly Utah is producing 9 GW of pointless energy so the 4 GW that Utahns rely on now have to compete w that.

Why? They shouldn’t need to draw from the main grid IIUC. If they have any excess they should honestly sell it tbh

I mean I guess? But also this is a project that literally ZERO Utahns want. It will destroy natural landscape, habitats, and generate power that doesn’t fucking provide any benefit bc AI is garbage. All because the people who voted yes want to make more money.

I mean I don’t really agree with the “AI is garbage” as a blanket statement but there certainly seems to be a gold rush and way too much hype. My biggest concern is that he’s mentioning renewables but doesn’t seem to say how much they’ll contribute to the total electricity production. That natural gas equipment is likely here to stay for a looooong time unless renewables become significantly cheaper. This pollution is going to be wild

https://www.axios.com/local/salt-lake-city/2026/05/04/utah-data-center-kevin-oleary ffs the head of MIDA says 100% of the power will come from natural gas. The renewables aren’t happening anytime soon, if ever
