I'm not making a blanket statement that the average person should be willing to sacrifice themself for a child without hesitation. But that officer signed up for the job knowing his ultimate duty is to protect the innocent. He was aware that he may have to lay down his life to do so. He failed.

Cops have proven in court that their “protect and serve” motto is just a slogan and isn’t legally binding in any way. Just putting that out there

absolutely, the Supreme Court even affirmed that the police have absolutely no responsibility to put their lives on the line to protect the lives of citizens. that slogan is pure PR for the masses

Policing as an institution in America is just a publicly funded fraternity with firearms. If they actually cared about law, you’d see them go after their own, which they never do
