Why is the Pahlavi Era (shah regime installed by USA) in iran considered bad?

Stagnating economy, wasteful decadent government, low human rights. The revolution happened for a reason, people across the political spectrum were fed up with it. It’s just that the religious right wing won out.

I have read about the things ure saying, theres also reports about reza pahlavi running a brutal police state and how SAVAK was notorious for systematic torture and making political opponents ‘disappear’. If Im not wrong, he was a puppet essentially and iran was being run by the united states. Nationalization of iran’s resources was being prevented.

I get all that. BUT I have also read about how Iran prospered under that regime. Women's rights were expanded, infrastructure and education were modernised. Yes, there were Iranians killed at the hands of the shah regime but FAR MORE have been killed by the Islamic Republic. And the islamic republic seemingly has been way more oppressive. So didn't overthrowing that regime and installing the Ayatollah make things worse for Iran?

i would say the islamic republic is worse than the shah but the thing is that the people who participated in the iranian revolution didn’t really have an idea of what islamic theocracy was gonna look like and just played along bc they didn’t like the shah
