Yeah I remember when they were considering Idris Elba for James Bond a bunch of people were like “He’s not even REALLY English!” like man Idris Elba is actually from England, Sean Connery was Irish and Daniel Craig is an aussie.

Annoying. But tbf ppl will be mad regardless. If a straight man plays a gay character, if a cis person plays a trans character, if a little person is cast for a dwarf character, if a cgi character takes a job from a little person, if a brunette plays a blonde. Seriously people are historically and presently always mad about casting decisions and honestly everyone should j shut up and enjoy the movie or go make their own

these same people will say “what’s the big deal” when a very Anglo person is cast to play a character whose role in the story is deeply influenced by their non-Anglo nature

I mean I’m not sure it’s a matter of only white people being able to play a role, there have been multiple instances of producers and networks saying they don’t want white people (specifically white men) being cast or considered for roles/positions rn. Why can’t we just pick the best fit? Why do we feel the need to take skin color into consideration?
