Cuba has been under a brutal totalitarian dictatorship and has a 60 year history of adding our direct adversaries (i.e. cuban missile crisis). This is supposedly our attempt to intervene and force the dictator out of power. Personally, I prefer how we handled Venezuela, but establishing a record as nation leader assassinators does not look as good as one might think on the world stage.
The entire issue is that their elections are corrupt and they haven’t been able to hold a fair election in over a decade. And that’s beside the point of their current government openly working with Russia who we are actively in a proxy war with via Ukraine. The nukes never went away.
“The parliamentary elections of 2023 in Cuba registered one of the lowest turnouts in recent years. During the electoral procedure, Cubans were expected to ratify lawmakers from a list of candidates only from the Communist Party of Cuba, due to opposition parties not being allowed in the country. Overall, ** percent of Cubans thought there is evidence of fraud benefiting the government during the elections” Actual numbers are behind a paywall, but what I’ve seen it’s like 70+%.
