
not a liberal, but we all advocate for better programs and help to get people off the streets and eventually clean. it isn’t a portland issue that there’s no resources to get these people help, it’s an america issue. appalachia has the highest rates of opioid use and drug related deaths in the states, as far as culture goes, that’s pretty far from a portland or a new york or an LA. the military cannot address this issue and neither can the jails, obviously.
i know you aren’t here for a good faith debate, none of you ever are, but as someone who has lost a lot of friends to drug use and been in the throes of it myself, this is going to take a systemic overhaul completely. if our elected officials actually cared, they’d address the root causes of addiction, but that will never happen.
