Chairman Bob Kelly of the Nooksak tribe disenrolled 306 people (15% of tribal members) prior to a competitive election. It was essentially a tribal coup to retain power, and those people lost their homes and tribal benefits.

And of course a bunch of tribes in Oklahoma are still denying membership to the descendants of the black slaves they kept.

It seems like a lot of people mistakenly believe that tribal governments are more trustworthy than state governments and like nah tribal politics can be even more fucked.
