People always speak on medicalization of mental illness and never consider what the patient wants. I’m happier taking medicine than I was when I was in therapy, because learning to dismiss intrusive thoughts is a Sisyphean task compared to taking a pill.

I don’t want to learn to manage the S/I that PMDD gives me when I could just take birth control to stop my period. I don’t want to manage panic attacks that are already happening, or to avoid triggers that cause them, when I could prevent them from happening with SNRIs. I don’t have to fight with myself, and still sometimes fail, to be okay anymore, because I have medicine.

I know it’s not that easy for everyone, or even for most people, but I think we still discredit the power that medication can have, and that there are a lot of attitudes around that can discourage people from seeking pharmaceutical help.
