Nvidia is restricted by the US on selling to China. They have slightly inferior lines of every model specifically for sending to China. There’s an entire market of smuggling GPUs from Japan into China because of it. The entire situation where the reveal of DeepSeek caused a huge selloff was because they made a (at least perceived) superior AI to Chat GPT with inferior equipment

The selloff was originally because people thought they didn’t use NVIDIA GPUs lol but then it turned out they did. They claim they used the inferior ones, but it’s highly likely they got good ones off the black market or through some shell corporation. The DOJ actually just got someone for that
