If Jesus returned today to the U.S. he’d be repeatedly silenced and attacked as a “radical leftist”, harassed by the govt and political establishment, and eventually “commit suicide” by three shots to the back of the head with a single action revolver

There is no such thing as being “socially left”, the left-right spectrum specifically describes economic policy. And Jesus was extremely socially *progressive* for his time

Leftist economics are also inherently socially progressive, you can’t actually be “socially left and economically right” or vice versa even in the way people mean when they say this

If you think being “progressive” for his time can be contorted into acceptance let alone support for lgtbq or abortion then you haven’t studied Jesus at all. He would be kind to people of all types, even murderers, but he would not support their sins

On LGBTQ: - All potential “condemnations” of queerness on the Bible are significantly ambiguous or appear alongside prohibitions on things like shellfish and blended fabrics. - Jesus makes no reference to the topic. - He loves even sinners unconditionally and shows them radical kindness

On abortion: - Jesus again makes absolutely no mention of the subject. - Exodus 21:22-25 suggests a fetus is valued less than a person (killing fetus carries fine, killing woman carries death penalty) - Numbers 5:11-31 describes priests performing an induced miscarriage as a mechanism of judgement - Not a single passage clearly establishes a fetus as a person or explicitly condemns abortion as a practice

Try to recognize that your own religious leaders are not exempt from Matthew 7:15
