People forget the 70 or so Catholics including clergy that have been named righteous among nations. People forget hitler literally tried to invade the Vatican and take the pope for being anti fascist. People forget alot of things. The church is in the end made up of individuals, some make the wrong choice. Interesting that’s the only one you want to highlight
The Catholic Church and the Vatican have a very long and troubled past (and present), so this really isn’t as surprising as it should be. It is, however, very hard to keep you hands clean when your main focus has been to spread the word of Jesus in a way that has erased his heritage and denounced other religions.
It was interesting you chose to say the Catholic Church instead of Catholics. It’s 100% true though some Catholic clergy and officials were involved in smuggling nazis, but the church as a whole wasn’t. Evil people exist everywhere, but they don’t define an entire organization as big as the Church.
It’s the same logic that’s apply anywhere? Do we blame the US for CIA missions that went bad overseas? Yeah, absolutely. Was it an entire administrations fault? No. But still, that’s what’s said. I think you’re being incredibly pedantic in this case, if you applied your same level of scrutiny to literally any other geopolitical entity you’d see the exact same level of descriptors. Again, I’d be willing to wager if this said: “communists in the US helped smuggle Nazis” - you wouldnt care
