The I told you so’s have been rolling freely for over a year. We don’t need to wait for shit, we’re way past that point. I think we’re all in agreement that it’s exhausting and we want it to stop.

Nope. It’s actually not a great feeling when you accurately predict something really bad. Unfortunately I’ve been right about COVID-related things, the fact we’d go to war so quickly, and the rampant corruption in this administration. I don’t like it

Undeniably bad shit already has happened, however some people are either conditioned and/or deluded to the point of supporting the atrocities taking place or outright denying them.

yea but if a headline broke tomorrow of trump caught on camera killing someone, you would feel at least a complicated way about it as you shared that link

You’re right. Horror combined with complete lack of surprise is complicated

do you know anyone personally that was truly maga and converged? like not just voting for him cause they’re republican, but actually fully maga cause i have sent ever big headline to my maga family in increasingly strategic way, learning what issues that have strong stances on and prioritizing sending them based sources showing trump betraying those ideals, and they are still maga. unfortunately, nothing has been undeniable yet. (perhaps its undeniable to a rational person, but it remains

deniable to them). give me any example and i can tell u exactly what their “logical out” is. i unfortunately know their psyche’s very well. people i love and care about have been lost to that shit

What you actually know isn’t their psyche, it’s how anyone responds when someone they love sends them confrontational headlines designed to prove them wrong. That response is defensive entrenchment, and it’s completely universal. You’ve been studying your own method’s failure, not their minds.

Facts don’t move beliefs that aren’t built on facts. MAGA identity is built on fear, belonging, and perceived threats to dignity. A headline can’t touch any of that. It just signals “you are wrong and I am going to prove it,” which activates the threat response and makes the belief calcify harder.

The research on this is really clear: direct contradiction of motivated beliefs backfires. It’s called the backfire effect. People don’t abandon a belief when confronted, they defend it more fiercely because now their identity is under attack, not just their opinion. Your strategy is essentially optimized to do the opposite of what you want.

The people who actually change minds on this do it through sustained relationship, genuine curiosity about what someone is afraid of, and making people feel seen before ever touching a policy position. It’s slower and it feels unfair. But it’s the only thing that actually works.

oh trust me, im well aware of the backfire effect. understanding how their belief systems work has been a huge project of mine for a while. i think there’s a way to present new information to them in a way that aligns with their belief system. for example, if someone’s a conspiracy theory type of republican, u get them fearful of israel and then subtly mention trumps involvement and by subtly mention i mean there are a couple of ways. my favorite is to pretend im on their side, that i believe

what they believe, and that im discovering this new information alongside them. another trick is to just throw words in there like “i agree but”, it makes the conversation feel less accusational

DIVA that's exactly how the American "left" (center right) controls you. Fear-based control is unethical no matter who is doing it. Your problem is that your motivations are completely skewed.

I am you, and you are me. The universe experiencing itself from different perspectives. To hate you is to hate myself. To love you is to remember who I am. All partisan politics violates our nature.

This hurt that you feel goes both ways. Hurt people hurt people and healed people heal people, so please DM me if there's anything you need to let out and I would be happy to listen.
