If I grew up low income and had to survive off food stamps and ept I would still find a way to make it out the hood. Hustle everyday. There’s just so much opportunity in American that you literally have to be lazy or stupid to be broke

There are immigrants coming here with little to no English who still find a way to make it. Whether it’s starting a business or doing labor, they work, buy cars and homes, and provide for their families. Meanwhile, we have Americans who speak English and have more resources available to them, yet still choose to live on the streets because they’re too lazy to work.

Yeah but what if you broke ur arm and had to call an ambulance & then you were $10,000+ in debt, or your car breaks down, or whatever. What if you saved a bunch of money but inflation keeps going up & wages don’t? What if you lose your job or your family member gets cancer? People spend their whole lives trying to catch up and aren’t able to.

To play devil's advocate, don't you think that putting in place a bunch of shitty low income housing with terrible food recommendations on EBT (which both gives them the baseline levels of care that they need to be able to put in the work, and makes them strive to work hard) is the only thing making this possible?

I think the immigrant thing is just evidence that we need legitimate education reform. A lot of my parents friends from med and law school were the children of first gen immigrants, disproportionate to their share of population relative to their portion of the class.

You can come from nothing and be successful, but we know that their parents were the type to actively try and better their situation, so the lessons they pass down would be completely different to those in different situations.

There is little to no certainty that the effort needed to come up legally works, when everyone who is around you and still in a shitty position already failed at trying to better their lives through 9-5’s, for whatever reason that may be.
