I went and looked this up. Different sources vary, but the consensus seems to be that about 25-33% of white southerners were directly involved in slavery (aka, benefitted directly from it)

Yea they use the total of the us but the population of the north vastly put numbered the south something like 22m to 4m i could be wrong on that number but they artificially deflate the %

Yea their entire economy was built around slavery. Only small numbers of southerners OWNED slaves, but there was an entire supply chain. There were still the drivers, fugitive hunters (Georgia State Police), auctioneers, entire naval crews, producers of goods made with slave labor, consumers of slave-sourced goods, socialites who abused enslaved people, and so much more. One part of a huge supply chain.
