That was actually an option in their 2013 sovereignty referendum. 99.8% of people voted to retain their current status as an overseas UK territory.

It makes sense. There’s not a lot of people, it’d be hard to fully self govern. And they need the UK to defend them because Argentina doesn’t care what the people who live there actually want.

It’s really funny that the Argentine government called the Falklanders hostages and pretended they were freeing them and then the Falklanders voted like that.
