Yeah my brother is old enough to remember in the early 2000s school events were racially segregated in my district (in Wilcox county) because the schools let the parents privately operate the proms so they could still discriminate and the schools could say it was out of their hands if they were ever challenged, and that had been going on since the Brown V Board of Ed ruling. My mom was actually one of the people counter protesting the racists

I don’t think they actually completely desegregated until 2013 but I wasn’t in high school yet

(And even then some parents still hosted a white only prom)

my elementary school wasn't integrated until 2008 (i know because i was part of the integration effort)
