We’ve always had this bastardized view of immigration in some capacity, think back to public perception of Muslims and anyone Arab presenting after 9/11 or American views of the Japanese during and after ww2. MAGA is just the next wave of making it normal again

It’s ironic how people descended from “WASPs” (White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, who’s ancestors got here since the 1600s-1700s) tend to be more liberal and accepting of immigrants (also African Americans who’s ancestors were trafficked here at the same time) and then you have the likes of catholic Italian and German Americans who’s ancestors came here in the middle of the 1800s and are xenophobic as hell. Makes no sense.
