I disagree, you can show that it’s such logically without treating them like they have a shot or letting them state their case in front of the same audience. That DOES legitimize them.

There’s a big difference between them having a shot and letting them state their case. Avoidance of the latter makes all response (even if true to case) seem like a straw man.
