I’m genuinely terrified for the future of the internet. Once age verification comes to pass everywhere it will become impossible to anonymously use the Internet. Online forums for dissent and discussion will be crushed.
Pretty sure this is limited to the UK and some states in the south for now. But I wouldn’t be entirely surprised at the rate this admin is going

It’s coming to the rest of the EU. And it’s only a matter of time until it’s everywhere.

There’s anonymity on the internet if you want to put the work in. And it’s fairly easy to do so as well. But if every website requires your ID or biometrics that will no longer be the case.

I’d be somewhat surprised if the rest of the EU is on board with this considering how seriously they take privacy, but the backsliding of freedom of speech there is concerning

Congress is already trying to reintroduce versions of the kids online safety act to include biometric identification. It will be here if we don’t stand up against it NOW

Well prepare to be shocked. It’s already passed. By 2026 the entire EU will be under its effect.

Surely that company will be completely above board when it comes to cybersecurity and pushing back on requests from law enforcement for data, right????? 😅
