So I’ve been hearing antisemitism this and antisemitism that, but why haven’t I heard about the sharp increase in Islamophobia particularly in Israel and other nations with large Jewish populations…? It’s ok to be islamophobic but not antisemitic?

Of course Islamophobia isn’t ok. Antisemitism isn’t ok either

Obviously neither are acceptable but the context is way different. Antisemitism is far more dangerous because of factors like the fact that antisemitism is not just a bigotry but also a conspiracy theory.

Ya I guess I just wanted to bring up the fact that everyone’s talking about one and not how there’s been an increase in both

also, there are dozens of Muslim majority countries that are reasonably wealthy and support Muslim interests around the world. Jews are an oppressed minority pretty much everywhere except Israel, but Israel itself isn’t even that great for Jewish people. Also, there are only about 15 million Jews in the world, compared to how many Muslim people?

Ya thats a very good point too, I forgot just how many Muslims there are compared to Jews. God I just wish we didn’t let hate and intolerance lead us to these avoidable and violent conflicts all the time

It’s not the 1940s anymore, Islamophobia is far more dangerous than antisemitism. Islamophobia is the ideology of the so-called War on Terror, the Hindu nationalist movement in India, the Israeli state’s genocide, the genocide against Bosniaks, the Rohingya genocide

Antisemitism is still wrong but it’s no longer the ideology behind ongoing fascism and mass murder across the world

"is it okay to be islamaphobic but not antisemitism" and people immediately jump in going but antisemitism is so much worse never mind that casual islamophobia is so normalized

No bigotry is more “dangerous” than another. Identity politics and oppression Olympics is stupid. There are many Muslim majority countries who are oppressive as well, it’s not just Muslims who are always the victims. Portraying one group more in danger than another is antithetical to ensuring justice for everyone

Anonymous replying to -> #6 16w

suggesting that certain groups are not more at risk than others is denial of reality, and needlessly reductive. no one said that Muslims are always victims, just that Islamophobia is used as a mechanism by western imperialist powers to justify the arguable genocides committed globally

Anonymous replying to -> _orangutan 16w

It’s not reductive. All oppressed groups/minorities are oppressed period. Saying Islamophobia is more dangerous than antisemitism and vice versa just pits people against each other. Islamophobia is prevalent in the west but that’s just one side of the globe. There are many non Muslims oppressed in the east and even in the west as well. I get what you’re tryna say but saying one minority has it worse than another doesn’t help at all

Because things like this negates any criticism of Iran’s regime or Pakistan backed terrorism since it will be perceived as Islamophobic, the same way people conflate criticism of Israel with antisemitism
