i bought into the vote blue no matter who mentality in 2024, but i’m simply not committing to give my vote to just *any* democrat. this moment is too important to have a repeat of an ineffective dem president that leads to a fascist.

That’s where I’m at too unfortunately. What other choices can you weigh op? Like how bad would they have to be before you vote right or don’t vote?

what you fault to realize is a dem like gavin newsom, kamala harris, pete buttigieg etc is that their ineffectiveness and lack of beliefs will lead to a fascist anyway. we just saw this happen. the country desired change from obama and biden and went on to elect fascism (with increasing extremism) as dems continued to not deliver. i’ll vote dem if they actually meet the moment.

furthermore, the country would’ve been in a better position if trump won in 2020 instead of biden winning, doing nothing and giving maga 4 years of momentum.

i’ll vote for him if he wants to abolish ice, indict the criminals in the trump admin and meaningfully restrain israel

So if you don’t see a true progressive left democrat run then you’ll not vote at all? Or vote Republican? In hopes that things will get even more fascist which will make people run a real leftist in 2032 or what? I get being disappointed in current democrats don’t get me wrong, I’m just not sure I follow the practical strategy here

i think the onus should be on the democratic party to have a widespread strategy. my opinion is that it is actually worse to have a feckless dem for 4 years that leads to even more extreme fascism than, for example, if trump had won in 2020. he would’ve been less extreme and done less harm than the current version of trump.

I mean put the onus on whoever you want, doesn’t really change the fact that we have to make decisions we don’t like. Your post was talking about elections in the future, how will you vote in those elections? If you plan to withhold your vote for any lackluster democrat, what do you think that will do to improve our situation?

i will vote according to who the candidates are. if there’s a dem that wants to abolish ice and criminally indict the pedos and trump admin criminals, i won’t just vote for them. i’ll canvass for them.

That doesn’t really answer the important question here, what will you do if the person who wins the primary is a lackluster centrist democrat? What will you do with your vote and why do you expect that action to be productive?

if a centrist dem wins the primary i will vote third party or sit out bc a feckless dem winning will lead to an outcome worse or just as bad as electing the fascist to begin with

So you're basically saying we should let the fascist win right away instead of 4 years later? Where's the logic in that? We should definitely push for a competent candidate but whoever we ultimately get is who we should vote for if we don't want more MAGA. There is no secret third option. The system does not work that way.

if you don’t want more maga, nominate a candidate that will actually make change. if you have a feckless do nothing dem, it will merely usher in WORSE fascism right after. had trump won in 2020, he wouldn’t have been as radical as he is right now. however, bidens ineffectiveness caused a right wing shift in the country and lead to a more extreme version of trump than what we would’ve gotten if trump had 2 consecutive terms.

so actually, you should be the one answering that’s the logic in nominating and voting in someone we know won’t be sufficient when we just saw how the country reacts to do nothing dems

I would love a competent leftist in office but I'm not going to inadvertently vote for MAGA over Newsom. We do not know for sure that a lame democrat term will lead to an even worse republican right after. I think the certain outcome of 8 (possibly more) straight years of MAGA sounds far more dangerous, and yet that seems to be what you prefer.

It is so obvious to me that this take is at least partially guided by the delusion that you have more than two real options, or that voting for the lesser of two evils is worse for your morals than not voting.

i never said there were more than two options in terms of who can win. what i’m saying is i don’t have to vote for the democrat if i believe they don’t match my values and will lead to more extreme evil as a result of their incompetence. your refusal to engage with my argument is baffling. biden helped usher in a much more extreme trump by not responding to people’s desire for deep change

it is so obvious to be that you will let dems be as right wing as possible if it’s one notch better than nazis. you uphold the exact ideology you claim to fight

I feel like I am engaging? I literally just addressed your point about not voting being better than voting for the lesser of two evils that doesn't match your values, AND the one about how a weak dem will lead to a worse republican after, and yet you just spat them back at me. If anything you're the one who's not engaging.

I think you are very tunnel visioned on Trump's loss probably making his second term worse. At this rate I do not see that happening again. The tyrannical fascist switch has already been flipped and I think Trump and any successor he may have will simply create as much chaos as they can for as long as they are in power. Gay marriage is so gone if MAGA wins again back to back I'm serious

And Trump's second term has already been so bad that I seriously think the moderates will realize how much calmer everything is with him gone, even if a lame dem is in office
