1. Jesus did not affirm the “traditional Jewish moral teachings” that were prevalent during His earthly ministry. That’s part of why the traditionalists hated Him so much. 2. Leftism doesn’t prescribe any particular sexual ethic beyond a strong commitment to consent, so there’s no conflict there. 3. Jesus said ppl should pay taxes because currency is an apparatus of the State anyway, but that no human institution can claim the self because GOD’S image is on each person. That’s super political.
Critiquing religious leaders isn’t the same thing as rejecting Jewish moral framework. He was literally a Jewish rabbi and explicitly said he didn’t come to abolish the moral law but to fulfill and deepen it. Mapping 1st century theology into modern politics is dumb, it’s a gross oversimplification
It literally is what you said though. That’s what the words “Mapping 1st century theology into modern politics is dumb, it’s a gross oversimplification” mean when you string them together in that order. The fact of the matter is that Jesus did speak politically during His earthly ministry and that on the whole His political speech would be considered radically left-wing even by today’s standards.
It’s not any more of an oversimplification than me saying “I am a Texan”. Just because it’s not the ENTIRETY of someone’s identity doesn’t make a true statement false. I stand by what I said because the words of Scripture show that it’s true. You’re right that our Lord doesn’t fit into any earthly party but that’s not what I’m doing.
