A cool little thing you can do with tear gas canisters is drop them in a bucket or other enclosed container, fill the container with water and/or sand, and shake the bucket, deactivating the chemical weapon banned for use in warfare (but not against us!)
Completely unrelated but common materials such as plastic drums, plywood, or sheet metal can be used to construct a lightweight but effective shield against rubber bullets and other “non-lethal” weapons
