“Why are you against the capture of Maduro but fine with the killing of Saddam Hussain???”
Yeah I’m sorry that I wasn’t out protesting the Iraq invasion at -2 in 2003 :(
i don’t think the state should be able to kill its own citizens, let alone kill or abduct the leaders of other nations. sort of an American exceptionalism thing, ignoring the larger trend as it coincides with european colonialism and imperialism

abu ghraib more accurately, i know you don’t know what that is so you should look it up. plenty to protest back then.

Yeah that wasn’t right either. Saddam Hussain was horrible (and so is Maduro) but these interventions never go well.

I’m confused, what was the US’ role in Abu Ghraib pre-2003?

There wasn’t any. Abu Ghraib was an Iraqi prison where human rights abuses happened before the US did the same thing but “for freedom”.

Guys stop arguing, I was mostly referring to the killing of Saddam Hussain and not the invasion as a whole, but yeah the invasion was unjust.

Anonymousberet_girl6w
So would you have deposed the killing of him
1
Anonymous#16w
To kill Sadam we had to invade Iraq and then we took him to the US where he was put on trial and hung. So yes

Ideally, he should have been arrested and tried by the UN and a more democratic government should have been established. I’m not sure how that would work because it would have to be done independent of the interests of any other nations, maybe the UN could do it somehow?

Anonymousberet_girl6w
the UN is a vessel for imperialism more than it is for democratic world governance
1
Anonymousberet_girl6w
Even then you still have to illegally invade Iraq likely on the bullshit lies about WMDs and you still have the US and friends trying to implement regime change which leads to a massive power vacuum

Do you have any better ideas? Every powerful institution is a vessel for imperialism and a populist revolt would likely end up with another dictatorship.

There aren’t many good options on how to depose a dictator. It’s best to find the optimal route or just not to do it. Hussain was bad but power vacuums are unpredictably dangerous.

removing the 5 permanent seats on the UNSC and giving all member-states equal representation is a good start

Yeah it really is. Unfortunately I’m not in charge of the UN.
