You know what today’s AWS outage proved? Maybe it’s a bad thing to have a large portion of the internet run through one centralized system exclusively for the purpose of data collection

The only reason AWS has almost all of its data sent through one server in Virginia is because they scrape every bit that comes through as training data for AI models. Amazon will never decentralize its servers because they can’t as effectively scrape AWS users data that way

Aside from their transcription and other AI services that they’ve made clear will use customer data for training, they don’t look at customer data unless there’s a legal order to do so. If their entire operation was based on training AI models, they’d have no reason to keep putting up data centers in other countries

I have. It’s covered in section 50.3. They detail which services use customer data for training and how to opt out
