I just genuinely will never understand why the current conservative position is that climate change doesn’t exist. Like look around

a lot of mainstream conservative viewpoints originated from saying "nuh uh" to whatever the generally accepted consensus was at the time

The slow and steady goalpost shifting is what pisses me off the most. It’s gone from “climate change isn’t real” to “it is real, but humans have nothing to do with it”

It’s sad where it’s at with climate change especially with how the Conservative Party used to look at it. They wanted to keep land safe and made national parks, now they only care about money

I know at least the sentiment from a lot of the older Republicans is that they have been hearing that the world is going to end, or that we only have __ years left pretty much their entire life.

I guess but like there’s an insane cognitive disconnect. Like I’ve seen interviews of people who openly acknowledge that the water and air are much hotter than 30yrs ago and that the animals are leaving/dying, and then when asked if they believe in climate change they say no. I understand the urge to say “nuh uh” but you would think people would learn from their lived experiences

Oh for sure it’s just the constituents, who more than not live in the areas more affected by this, that seem only believe it

Like yes, the earth’s climate goes through cycles, but they take tens/hundreds of thousands of years to go through. Species have time to adapt to these changes (obv, bc life would have died if they didn’t) when it’s a natural cycle, but that isn’t what we’re seeing now.

Right? I hear people all the time going “it’s a natural cycle of heating and cooling and we’re coming out of an ice age” ok dingbat did organized human society exist before the ice age??!
